The Water Tower

This is a story I wrote based off of the story 'The Water Tower'. It was told o us by a reliever.

Spike clambered into the eerie tower. The lime walls reflecting onto the murky waters the town had been drinking. He took a step into the water and felt a temptation clawing at his mind. As soon as he took his foot out, it stopped. Though it still felt like someone was watching him. His mind felt like it was fighting a strong temptation that was that bit weaker than him. Spike quickly fought his way out of the water tower and its water power. He found Bubba waiting for him at the top of the sizzling tank. “Are my pants in there?” Bubba asked worriedly. “Nah, have you lost them?” Spike said. “Yeah, mums gonna kill me!” Bubba wailed. “I’ll dash back to your house and get you a new pair in five minutes ok?” Spike said reassuringly. “Thanks man.” Bubba said relieved. As Spike dashed off with strong legs Bubba scrambled into the tank.

The thick walls echoed Bubba’s soft breath. The gloomy water showed nothing of what as underneath its dark lime covers. Bubba then felt a sharp thought. It was ripping his mind open with a desire. He couldn’t fight it for very long. It was raking at his mind to give in, and eventually, he did. The relief overwhelmed him, and he scrambled back up, making up excuses about what scared him. The water tower seared his feet. “I should get off this stupid thing..” Bubba mumbled. Halfway down he started to feel a bit dizzy, but he didn’t mind it. The dizziness got more intense as he crawled into the bushes. Then his heart stopped beating. Literally. He saw another figure crawl out of the tank, slowly taking shape of Bubba. It looked him dead in the eye. Bubba fainted in the bush, never to be found again.

While Spike was running, he noticed everyone had turned to look at the water tower. Their eyes had gone blank, but Spike didn’t notice that. He continued to run. He arrived at Bubbas house and greeted his mother. There was no reply from the blank eyed lady. “Uhm.. Ok?” Spike said warily. He took the pair of shorts and dashed off to the water tower. As soon as he got there he called out for Bubba. A figure crawled out of the tower. “Oh hello, Spike, do you have my shorts?” Bubba said slowly, as if he wasn’t sure what to say. “Yeah! Your mum was acting SO weird though. Here, come down!” Spike yelled. “No, I’d prefer you to come up here. Don’t wanna drop my towel, haha.” Bubba said. This wasn’t Bubba? But it looked identical to him, so Spike came up the tower. “Here man, hey what are you doi- AHHHHH!” Bubba dragged Spike in to the tower. Spike landed with such force that he was knocked unconscious.

Bubba woke up in a dark room with Spike. “Spike! Don’t trust the figure! It’s not me!” Bubba called out. “It’s to late Bubba.” Spike said. “Oh, well, don’t give in to the temptation! It sucked me into death! These are my last moments..” Bubba said softly. He didn’t want the temptation to overwhelm Spike. But if he fought it once, why coudn’t he fight it again? “I know you can do it.” Bubba said. Bubba felt like fading away, but he had to comfort his friend. “By the way, did you get the shorts?” Bubba asked jokingly. “Yeah, thats what brought me here.” Spike said with no humor. Bubba was about to die. “Please, take care!” Bubba said.

“No! Bubba!” Spike yelled. But he was gone. Spike woke up yet again in another room. It was the inside of the tower. The desire once again clawed his mind, but stronger. The urge fought his mind with a strong force. But then it stopped. “I know you want to give up..” A voice murmured. “Who’s there?” Spike said, weakened by the psychological fighting. “Nobody you know..” The voice sad again. “I’m just here to convince you to join your little friend here. The fake Bubba stepped out from the shadows. “This is the real Bubba, I promise you. That one you saw in your dreams, was just a  simple illusion..” The voice said. Maybe it was.. Just an illusion.. No! He couldn’t give in. “You know it’s true..” The voice murmured convincingly. Spike fought the thoughts but they wouldn’t go away. It could be an illusion.. “I am real,” The supposed Bubba said. “You just can’t wrap your mind around it..”. Suddenly, Spikes thoughts stopped. He had given in on accident. “No..” He had started to feel dizzy. “Nobody can fight it..” The voice said softly. “Night night.”
